Arcadis Develops Tech-Based Home Health Solution Ideal for Aging in Place
Arcadis has developed RADIUS, a concept that offers 360-degree care to individuals through the creative mashup of emerging technologies including the Internet of Things, sensor technology, AI, 5G technology, nano technology and more — all in the privacy and comfort of their own home. While initially created for a design competition, Arcadis has advanced and repurposed some key concepts in recent projects.
Through the seamless implementation of a home health “kit of parts” into an adaptable universal floor plan, the concept allows space for dignity, aging in place and independence for a population traditionally reliant on in-person appointments, bedside nursing and medication management.
The AI portion of the concept is empowered by machine learning to interact with the user in whatever way benefits them most. If they need to be reminded of their name and where they are, RADIUS provides a “person” that talks them through the uncomfortable waking up period. RADIUS is also the hub of connectivity and can digitally order groceries or food delivery, disperse medications and dosages and even offer rehabilitation programs, physical therapies or just exercise. Appointments can be scheduled that can be hosted on the device itself for telehealth or schedule for an in-home visit with a caregiver. Connecting all devices in the living space will allow for caregivers and family to be able to have as many alerts as frequently as necessary.
