Moving to an active adult community of one-floor detached homes, the Verdich family wanted to make renovations that would allow them to age in place. The initial task centered on addressing a primary area of use, the owner’s bathroom.
Achieving a space designed for living WELL required incorporating universal design concepts, including:
• Level flooring transitions
• Appropriate flooring,
• Zero-clearance shower entry
• Lighting
• Sufficient storage and;
• Ergonomic considerations for plumbing choices, counter heights and seating.
The couple was retired and wanted a place for relaxation after a busy day of adventures.
To create an appropriate lifestyle plan, the initial discussions focused on physical needs, budget and safety, resulting in a space that incorporates ergonomic comfort, accessibility and ease of use to achieve the goal of aging in place.
