Interactive Diagrams Help Imagine Design Options for Aging in Place, Universal Design

The Center for Health Design is offering open access to interactive design diagrams. In a visually intuitive and actionable format, these diagrams provide a link between the evidence base, design strategies and desired outcomes – safety, efficiency, satisfaction and high-quality care. A range of design element considerations – including lighting – are presented in a variety of settings, including home care environments.

The set of interactive diagrams includes design for healthcare at home, aging in place and universal design across five home environments: (1) exterior; (2) bedroom; (3) bathroom; (4) living room and (5) kitchen/laundry. Diagrams include a large body of research evidence and best practice knowledge for designers and owners to consider in single family homes and long-term care settings.
