Interior Design for Arizona Friendship Village Expansion Completes

Spellman Brady & Company has completed the interior design for a new five-story, 64-unit independent living building for Friendship Village of Tempe, Arizona. The company was responsible for selecting the interior finishes, as well as the selection and procurement of the furnishings and artwork.

The company’s challenge was to create an updated design that would appeal to the newest generation of incoming residents. SBC’s design concept creates a resort-style feeling that is vibrant and modern, with an artistic influence reflective of the nearby Sedona dynamic art scene.

The crowning highlight of the 142,619 square-foot building is the rooftop destination restaurant and brew house called Starfire. Taking a cue from the upscale restaurants, craft breweries, and rooftop venues baby boomers enjoy, Starfire features a hospitality-inspired design. By taking advantage of the space’s floor-to-ceiling windows, the interior design maximizes the panoramic desert and Tempe city views. Industrial accordion-style doors open from the restaurant to the main outdoor patio and two smaller side patios.

Starfire’s finishes and color palette embrace the indoor-outdoor aesthetic. Its design weaves color, texture and pattern to create an artful ambiance that combines a rich palette of desert-inspired neutrals with blues, greens, warm terracotta oranges and gilded copper accents. Additional design elements include playful tile patterns, wood paneling, cheerful fabrics and whimsical light features.

Spellman Brady collaborated with architecture firm: Ryan A+E and Ryan Companies US, the general contractor for the project. The project was developed by LCS Development.
