American Society for Interior Designers Announces National Conference Dates
Registration is open today for the first national conference for interior design in more than a decade. GATHER, the National Conference by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), will be held in Miami, Florida, from September 21-24.
As Americans have reimagined their living and working spaces over the past two years, interior design has shifted and been elevated to new levels of importance. Open to ASID members and non-members alike, GATHER will offer a space for all sectors of interior design—practitioners, educators, students, and design enthusiasts, to explore how design is shaped by the social and cultural context of our times.
“GATHER is a vital addition to the existing industry slate of shows and events, acting as a hub for inspiration and education bringing together all sectors of design,” said Gary Wheeler, CEO of ASID, FASID. “By uniting commercial to residential, student to educator, designer to industry partner, GATHER will transcend all areas of the profession to unify the allied design community.”
GATHER will offer a space for all those who touch the interior design community to network, learn, discuss, and socialize in person. The conference events and agenda will be centered around four key pillars impacting interior designers: the changing work environment; adaptive and multi-generational living; leading through challenging times; and climate, health, and equity, including diversity and inclusion. Each session will dive deeper into core topics, presenting new ideas, solutions, and resources to strengthen the interior design business and practice. This programming will also explore untraditional formats that energize attendees and facilitate interaction with featured speakers.
“More than 50 percent of our engagement at GATHER will be peer learning, networking and problem-solving. We’re reimagining the typical panel format of learning— as opposed to speakers on one side and audience on the other, it will be a fully engaged group with the opportunity for all participants to learn from each other collectively,” said Wheeler.
In addition to the experiential programming, GATHER will host ASID industry partners through creative, interactive installations designed to encourage collaboration between interior designers and manufacturers.
Also unique to GATHER is ASID’s stewardship of students entering the profession. The 2022 conference will mark the return of the ASID National Student Summit (commonly referred to as SCALE). SCALE is the only national event for design students, offering them learning and engagement, and a chance to connect with one another and mentors in the field.
The conference will be held at the InterContinental Miami Hotel, with satellite events being held throughout the week at exciting venues around the city, including Nikki Beach. Additional venues, keynote presentations, and speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
